Human beings are nature’s most incredible creation, and early childhood is the crucial period, where the foundation for his/her future is going to be established. The period of the Absorbent Mind (Birth to Six years) along with the Sensitive periods, plays a significant part in the development of movement, language and social skills of the child. During the first three years of life, the child’s mind is unconscious and purely absorbent. He/She has the ability to imbibe whatever happens in the environment, and later use it towards the overall development (physical as well as psychic). The Study of the Sensitive periods (a distinct sensibility of the child towards acquiring a particular characteristic), helps in understanding the psychic growth of the child. A child is born in this world; this implies he/she has entered a new environment, ready to absorb every minute activity that happens around them. â€Å"Whatever is formed at that time in the child’s mneme has the power to become eternal† - (The Absorbent Mind, Dr. Maria Montessori, Page No.120) Horme – The Unconscious inner drive of the child, awakens the child’s enthusiasm towards his/her environment in the first three years of birth. The Silent observer acquires every movement from the environment and stores it in the Mneme – the unconscious memory. Whatever is saved in the Mneme, later becomes a part of the child’s personality. As adults, we are aware of the physical developments that happen in a child.
